You Know You Love Juliet
Morning Upper Media Siders, you know who it is, it's your favorite Media Studies site with more information than ever.
Today is a special day, its all about Juliet and everything she stands for! I will be doing an updated main character analysis about her physical characteristics, costuming, prop associated with her, her personality, and much more that we saw more clearly after filming all the scenes ask the main character analysis that i did before before prior to any filming!
Physical Characteristics/ Costuming:
-In our movie opener, Juliet looks extremely different in the beginning of the film when she is getting ready for her performance than she does in the middle of the movie opener. I will include 2 pictures down below, the first one is Juliet in the beginning and the second one is her getting ready for school.

- This is sarah in the beginning of the movie, as you can see, her hair is pink, she has a dramatic makeup look, her mascara is dripping down her eyes, black lip, a nose septum. She is wearing a very rockstar outfit (black crop top and black & white skirt). we used a very similar outfit to the one in our costume blog. incase u want to go and revisit it:)
- This is sarah as she is getting ready for school. As you can see, her personal appearance has changed a lot. she has a short pixie cut, a very natural face with barely any makeup on. Additionally, she is wearing a very basic teenage girl outfit which is almost identical to the one we put on the costume blog!
- Her appearance in these scenes are way more basic "Coming of Age" stereotypes, which we wanted to accomplish!
Props:
- Our main character: Juliet didn't really have many props that were important and associated with her personality! Nevertheless, one that could be mentioned is her phone.
- As many teenage girls do, Juliet is always on her phone looking through her Instagram feed. Browsing on Twitter and so forth! A cell phone is a clear staple in every teenage girl's life.
- "Juliet" (aka Sarah) is actually using my phone. Which is a purple iPhone 11 with a Casetify smiley face case. We used my phone because it was more a funky, teenage girl type of case. As you can see in the picture, the case has a bunch of smiles and is very colorful. Kind of iconic to have that case since Juliet isn't the most happy person ever lol :)
Juliet's Personality:
- Juliet has a very distinct personality. in the beginning of the movie you can tell that Juliet is very upset and frustrated with everything going on. At the same time, she is still doing everything is her power to get ready for her performance. Without a doubt, she is just having a hard time putting on makeup and preparing herself for the big moment. This is just the beginning of the film (which is a flash forward into the future) after we are taken to the past, you can see that Juliet is still having a very hard time and is pretty depressed. She doesn't want to wake up, she is all bitter and doesn't have the energy for anything. What my team and I tried to accomplish during these scenes is that Juliet is a teenage girl who suffers from depression and has a hard time fitting in with her surroundings. She can't even find comfort with her own mother, (As you can see in the breakfast and car scenes). Juliet's mom does everything in her power to try and be there for Juliet but unfortunately, Juliet just doesn't show her any affection or love. Down below I am going to include some pictures that show you how depressed and anti-affection Juliet is!
- This is the first scene of the movie opener. It shows Juliet trying to clean up her makeup after she had a pretty big meltdown.
- She has been crying non-stop, is angry at herself, is stressed but trying to keep moving forward and stick together with herself.
- Flash to the past, when Juliet is waking up from bed. As you can see, she still has that blank expression on her face and looks extremely tired and sad.
- She does not want to get up and hates going to school. She kinda hates everything.
- All she wants to do is sleep and doesn't have any desires.
- Juliet is at the dining table in front of her mom and is not talking at all. It is completely silent and you can see the same old blank expression that Juliet carries on her face.
- She is just there. She doesn't want to be up and is still struggling with her depression. It at a high right now because she hates school.
Thats the run-down on our main "STAR" Juliet! Without her, our movie would not be possible! I also want to give a huge shoutout to Sarah Sanabria for playing Juliet perfectly! She was honestly the best person for the job! Love you sarah!!!
