Films Spotted!

Over the weekend, I got to practice making sample films using all the different shots I learned in class. It was so much fun filming each video and capturing all the different characters, emotions, and angles. Each film and shot is unique in its own way! Here I will show and explain every film that I took:

1. 

This shot is called the Over The Shoulder Shot: As you can see, the camera is positioned right behind the character's shoulder. This shot helps the audience feel as if they are right there in the scene as well as helps focus on one character at a time. The purpose of the Over The Shoulder Shot in my film, is to show the feeling of intimacy and frightening through the phone call. Usually the Over The Shoulder Shot includes two people in the frame, however, in my film, not only is the "feeling" of two characters is present because of the phone call, the feeling of frightening is stablished by the way the character through the phone is talking. This was one of my favorite shots to film!

2. 

This shot is called the Extreme Close Up: As you can see, the camera is positioned really close to the character's face, only showing her eye area. This shot helps show extreme detail and intense emotional detail. For example, in the video you can see the character opening her eyes and them dilating. This could be because the character saw something exciting or even scary. You might ask, how does the audience know? The answer is they don't, since the camera is only focused on her eye area, the readers don't know what she is looking at, making them think of many scenarios. I enjoy filming extreme close up because you can really notice every little detail. 

3. 

This shot is called the Two Shot: As you can see, the camera is positioned where two characters are in the frame. This shot helps show emotional reactions, tension, and interactions between both the characters. In my film, it is noted that one character is extremely sad, has trouble staying up, maybe even depressed. On the other hand, the character in the green jacket is a friend who came to comfort the other character. The interaction between both of them and their emotions is captured perfectly by the use of the two shot. 

4. 

This shot is called the Long Shot: As you can see, the camera is positioned where the location is entirely in the frame along with the character. This shot shows the entire character in relations to what surrounds them.  Also, it makes the audience feel as if the character is extremely important and lets them focus on their body language. The purpose of this shot in my film, is too emphasize to the audience that the character is important and for them to realize her body language. It is noted that as she goes up the stairs, she kicks each step and even almost falls on them. It truly shows not only the character's body language, but also establishes the mood of the scene. The empty stairs, the only character, and the silence work together to capture the perfect long shot. 

5. 

This shot is called the Point of View Shot: As you can see, the camera is positioned directly at the character's perspective. This shot shows what the character is looking at as well as gets inside the character's head. As this shot is usually used in horror films, I wanted the atmosphere of the film to be scary and include drastic sound effects. For example, in the film, you can hear heavy breathing, and loud footsteps. It allows the audience to see that the subject is being chased by someone who they don't see, evoking a frightening mood. The angle of the camera and the terrifying sound effects compliment each other to capture the perfect point of view shot.
