Spotted: The Use Of Color!

Blogger girl is back and ready to get into the details about "mise-en-scéne", one of my favorite things about filming :) before I get started with explaining the color in our film, let's go through the basics first! 

What Is "Mise-En-Scéne"?

  • According to Studio Binder, Mise-en-scéne is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a play. Translated from French, it means "setting the stage" but, in film analysis, the term mise en scene refers to everything in front of the camera, including the set design, lighting, and actors. Mise en scene in film is the overall effect of how it all comes together for the audience. 
  • This website is very reliable because Ms. Woz used to show us a variety of videos that had to due with camera angles, shots, filming, and etc. 

"Mise-En-Scéne" Costumes & More 

Color is one of the most important parts when it comes to costuming, for our lead actress, Juliet, we wanted to make sure that every single scene she was in, she was wearing the perfect clothes. I briefly touched up on this topic in my costuming blog so you might hear some of the same ideas that ended up happening perfectly.


Getting Ready For Her Performance: 


  • This is Juliet's first appearance and we wanted to make sure that she stands out and that the clothes really add to the scene and the emotions being made in it. The colors are white, black, and bright pink (her hair). Black and white colors really added to the internal struggle that Juliet was facing here and the pink wig is just ironic being it is supposed to bring happiness, calmness and this is just the opposite of what's happening in the scene. 
  • In addition, we wanted to include the color pink because it really pops out against the black and white and bring attention to her face/ head. 
Getting Ready For School: 


  • This is Juliet 2nd appearance in the movie opener, even though you can only see her shirt in this photo, (a normal black long sleeve), you can tell that her outfit is very plain and neutral which is what we wanted to do for her as it emphases her depression. 
  • Nevertheless, as you can see behind her, she has a huge picture wall that includes a wide variety of bright colors which gives the vibe of a teenage room.
