Long time, no see, I am glad to be back and blogging about my journey in the Aice Media Studies Class!! 

Today I will be observing 2 movies from my favorite genre! If you didn't already know, my favorite genre is: Horror! Any movie revolving around Horror, count me in! Horror films incorporate hints of physical violence and psychological terror. The movie always keeps you on your toes and has you panicking every 2 seconds wondering what going to happen next. One reason why I think I love horror so much is because of how much editing is involved. In every horror film, they is always the so called "monster" those always need to be added specific details to make the chatter and film perfect!! 

Today I will be observing the opening sequence one of my favorite Horror Films

 Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1


This movie is so amazing, if you haven't watched it, stop what you're doing and go watch it!! For each movie, I will be answering 6 questions!! Let's get started!! 

How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

  • Two! Two titles are displayed during the opening of the film! The first one is the production/studio which is Summit Entertainment! This is a theatrical motion picture development and distribution studio. Lionsgate Films is the Owner of this Studio! The Twilight Saga Series was the most popular films that were made by Summit Entertainment. This movie made over $600,000,000 worldwide in the Box Office! Pretty crazy right? The second title displayed in the movie is the Title of the film: Breaking Dawn: Part One! Here are pictures of how the titles were displayed:
  • As you can see, both of these titles are have a very similar mysterious backgrounds. The first had red and black somewhat ombre effect with clouds on top. The second title actually starts on the same background and fades into more of a blue, cold type of background. Both these titles are giving off scary, mysterious vibes.


 

 What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? 

  • The main images that privatized in the opening sequence are trees, forest, cabin like house, and a lot of rain. these are all elements that make up a Horror Film. As I continue watching the opening of this film, I see one the main character transform himself into a scary wolf and runs into the forest. I can clearly tell its going to be scary but the way they are showing abandoned forests with heavy rain fall, A scary wolf- man fog, Take a look for yourself!!
  • First photo is a wide shot of the landscape. As you can see, the wolf is running into the forest upset and you can see the heavy rain fall that is happening during the duration of the clip. The grass looks dirty and this overall establishing a scary mood. 

  •  This next photo is also a wide shot of the landscape and defiantly represents a Horror film!! As you can see, it shows huge oakwood trees with mysterious foggy dark sky and cloudiness. this really sets the tone for what's to come and I can already start to imagine what the movie has to offer. 


What connotations do the images carry? 

  • By looking at his facial expressions and the way he reacts when reading the card, you can tell he is extremely angry and does not like what ever he read. With the heavy rain falling on him and the grunting, it gives the connotation that something bad is in the works for the film. 
  • This image shows the same card he was reading was thrown on the floor in a big puddle of rain. The boy in the first image is clearly upset on what he reads and this puts him a very angry mood. this image has a strong connotation that something dark and scary is going to happen. 


How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
